Oh Gawd. This. So very this. That last part...EXACTLY what I've been embodying but have not had words for. Not going to Target does not feel like THE thing, but hugging a woman I barely know at 2nd grade pick up because she's terrified to be there with ICE in the neighborhood, THAT feels like something. Thank you for making me realize that IS taking action.
Oh Jess, they both are! I do reckon though, I guess to the point of this piece, is that the generative efforts we share, particularly those that come from a place of a deeper shared morality, carry even more staying power. Keep hugging!! Also, I’m not messing with Target any more either… 🫣😭
Great stuff!! Each day I'm choosing empathy, curiosity, and community. It doesn't feel like much, but it is what I can do each day in an attempt at doing the right thing.
And I consider myself soooo lucky to witness your good works first hand. We do take for granted, often, the power of just doing the things that make us US, when it's sharing our essence through our actions that's far more effecting to others than it feels to us. Great stuff, right backatcha!!!!
Re: School lunches-- during COVID, these were covered by our tax dollars (and in our district delivered to student's homes) and I thought maybe(!) just maybe this would be the new norm. Silly me.
Our better angels are contract workers, apparently. This kind of stuff being collateral political damage drives me absolutely bonkers. Do or do not. There is no sometimes.
That was real and at times painfully poignant, but not about TikTok. If I've recently wondered that I'm delivering the message too much or not enough, I'm still wondering. Words of encouragement to take a bit of the edge off this morning. Solid read, thanks.
